Mining Charter, 2018: A further revision of the Mining Charter (after previous Minister Zwane’s disastrous one of 2017, which ended up in Court), was published by Gwede Mantashe, the new(ish) Minister of Mineral Resources, in mid-June 2018. You can read a copy of the Mining Charter 2018 at this link. Comments from the public were initially due on 27 July 2018, but the Minister has subsequently indicated that the period for public comments had been extended to the end of August 2018 (although nobody seems to have bothered to promulgate this extension in the Government Gazette). Van der Want Attorneys can assist mining companies and other interested parties with preparing submissions to the Department of Mineral Resources. We know the law in this area, and have prepared several such submissions previously. Matthew has even represented clients’ position in parliament before the portfolio committee. Contact us.
