He is a recognised expert on South African mining and oil and gas law and the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002, its Regulations, the amended Mining Charter, and related legislation. He has previously lectured part time at the School of Law of the University of the Witwatersrand in the law of property and delict and started the evictions unit at the Wits Law Clinic in 2006.
Professor Philippa Kruger is a senior attorney at the Wits Law Clinic, where she also is in charge of the family law unit. She has run a successful private family law practice for many years and has also acted as a judge in the South Gauteng High Court. She is among South Africa’s leading family law practitioners, famous for her ethical and child-focused approach to family law matters. Philippa guided Matthew through his articles back in 2002 and has played a supportive and mentoring role ever since. We are proud to have her as a consultant to our firm.
Franklin Mbiriri joined us as an associate in June 2019. He studied at Rhodes University in Makhanda, where he completed his Bachelor of Arts and LLB degree in 2016. He did his legal articles (now called practical vocational training) at Don Maree Attorneys in East London, where he gained experience in litigation, debt review, family law, eviction law and general legal practice. He moved all the way to Johannesburg to come and work with us and a very warm welcome to him. He does not like the picture we took of him and we cannot understand why.
Nompumelelo Mabikwa joined us as a candidate attorney in February 2018. She graduated from the University of Johannesburg in 2017 with the BCom LLB degrees. While at van der Want Attorneys, she has gained experience in litigation, commercial law, business rescue, mining law and commercial drafting. It has been rewarding to watch her grow and develop.
